What do nurses need for a QCHP license in Qatar?
Qatar's Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP, formerly QCHP) licenses a Registered General Nurse with 24 months of clinical experience after registration and a pass in its Prometric exam, and your employer in Qatar submits the application, so a job offer comes first.

What DHP asks of a Registered General Nurse
| Qualification | A four-year BSc in nursing, or a three-year diploma after twelve years of schooling, or an associate degree if already licensed as RGN; online and distance programmes are not accepted |
|---|---|
| Experience | 24 months of clinical experience after registration. Applicants short on experience can be approved to train under supervision |
| Exam | Prometric qualifying examination; NCLEX-RN passed within the last five years exempts |
| Job offer | The employer's representative submits the evaluation, so a job offer comes first; primary source verification must be complete and the report attached |
| Good standing certificate | Sent directly by the home regulator to DHP at the licensing stage |

Good to know
- How long does DHP take?
- The evaluation takes 15 working days and stays valid for 6 months; licensing then takes 10 working days.
- What do I need for the licence itself?
- Qatar ID, the PSV report, a Qatar police clearance, a medical report, CPR, and the good standing certificate sent directly by the home regulator.
- Can I start work before the full licence?
- DHP can issue a temporary licence: six months, non-renewable, bridging the gap to full licensing.
- Can I use the NCLEX instead of the Prometric exam?
- Yes, a pass from the last five years exempts you. From 1 January 2026 any exam used for an exemption (NCLEX-RN for nurses) must itself be verified; no exam is accepted without a verification report.
- How many times can I sit the exam?
- Applicants can sit the qualifying exam up to 5 consecutive times whatever the gap between attempts.
