Good to know
- Is it the same for nurses, doctors, dentists, pharmacists and paramedics?
- Yes. Each of their national boards uses Ahpra's one English standard, so the scores above apply to every one of them.
- Can I combine two sittings?
- Yes. Two sittings within 12 months may be combined, with floors on each; the IELTS One Skill Retake is accepted. Both sittings must be of the same test, with all four parts sat each time and each part at or above its floor in the table above.
- How long is a result valid?
- Two years before lodging the application, extended for applicants who have since worked continuously as a registered practitioner in English (at least 26 weeks full-time equivalent a year) or studied in a Board-approved programme, applying within 12 months of finishing.
- What if I sat the test before 23 Apr 2026?
- Tests taken on or before 22 April 2026 are assessed against the old table; tests from 23 April 2026 against the new; a first sitting before and a second after are assessed against each table respectively.
- Can I register without a test?
- Possibly. The standard's pathways are combined education, school education, advanced education and test. The combined education pathway asks for at least two years of secondary education taught and assessed solely in English in a recognised country, and the qualifications for the profession taught and assessed solely in English in a recognised country. India, the Philippines, Nigeria, Pakistan and Egypt are not recognised countries, and South Africa has not been one since 18 Mar 2026.
