Doctors in Oman: the ministry's GP route and the OMSB exam at US$220

Under its November 2025 procedure, Oman's Ministry of Health licenses a General Practitioner for a private health establishment with a degree, the internship, four years of work experience, a DataFlow report, the OMSB general practitioner examination (US$220) and the ministry's viva; a level 2 specialty certificate needs no further experience for Specialist and level 3 needs 3 years.

What it means for you

Oman has doctor pathways from the ministry's own procedure; the UK, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia English rules now follow each council's fine print; answering "not sure" about the World Directory keeps your routes open with a step to confirm; a doctor already on a register sees nothing left to do there.

Oman (Ministry of Health, OMSB)

Three new pathways from the ministry's November 2025 procedure for private health establishments: General Practitioner (degree, internship, four years, DataFlow, the OMSB general practitioner examination at USD 220, the ministry's viva), Specialist (level 2 certificates need no further experience, level 3 three years) and Consultant (six or twelve years). The establishment's letter opens the file, so a job offer comes first. OMSB does not publish which boards sit at which level; the plan asks which level OMSB gave you. Kuwait's pages for doctors could not be read by any means, so Kuwait still says "Not checked yet" for doctors.

World Directory of Medical Schools

"Not sure" used to close every route. It now leaves them open with one step: confirm your school's listing. Only "No" closes a route.

English, read from each council

The GMC accepts a degree taught and examined solely in English only for two years after graduation, and needs no evidence from nationals of its English-first countries whose degree is from one of them. The Irish Medical Council exempts graduates of Irish, EU/EEA, UK, Australian, New Zealand and US schools outright, and a degree and internship in English in one of its predominantly English-speaking countries. The Medical Council of New Zealand's September 2026 policy sets floors for two sittings (6.5 and 300), reads OET as scores, and counts a NZREX or PLAB pass only within five years. Australia follows Ahpra's combined education pathway as the nurse pack does.

Already registered

A doctor who holds full registration in the UK, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand sees every route there as done, instead of being told to sit the exam again. New Zealand's comparable-health-system route now closes, rather than listing a registration abroad as a step, when the person is not registered in one of the 29 countries.
